What is occupational therapy and how can it help me?

Occupational therapy is a wide range of treatments that use peoples activities to increase their ability to cope with the challenges that life puts before them. An example is how occupational therapists will problem solve with their client how they might return to social situations following a period of depression. They may use their clients previous enjoyment of a hobby like pottery or football to motivate them to expose themselves to situations where they can build confidence and have a positive experience, becoming increasingly confident and comfortable. The occupational therapist may have to create controlled situations or environments initially, but will increasingly take a back seat as the process continues continually adjusting and reviewing the treatment with the client.

The skill of the occupational therapist is to be objective about the problem, understand the clients perspective and help them to find the solutions to these problems. If you want to find out more please get in touch.
